In this section, you will learn how to start a new recording.
To start a new recording, you need to install Cortrium Apex, first.
In the first part, you will learn how to prepare the device for a new recording using Cortrium Apex. In the second part, we will show you how to prepare the skin of the patient, before attaching the device in the third part.
Before attaching the Holter monitor to a patient, please make sure that your battery is fully charged. When charging, a full battery is indicated with a constant green light. You can also see the charging status in Cortrium Apex.
To prepare for a new recording, connect your Holter monitor to your computer and open Cortrium Apex. In the menu, click on Open Device and make sure that your device is connected properly. To proceed, please select “Erase all and prepare for new patient”.
This step will permanently delete all existing recordings on your C3⁺ Holter Monitor. If you have existing recordings, please process your recordings, first.
When you are ready to proceed with a new recording, please enter the required patient information. This information is used to help you identify the recording in Cortrium Apex for you and on the final reports. You can furthermore enter an optional note, which will also appear on the report. Please choose a recording length in the dropdown menu. Finally, click “Save to device”.
Your Holter monitor is now ready to make its first recording! You can still edit the patient information in the upper part of the screen. To continue attaching the device to a patient, please select “Safely unplug device” before unplugging your Holter Monitor.
The Holter monitor should be placed vertically on the midsternal line, as shown in the following picture.
Please make sure to shave all hair in the area where the electrodes will be placed. Otherwise, the electrodes might detach from the skin during the recording.
Continue with cleaning the skin, preferably with a cotton swab and appropriate alcohol.
Turn the device and attach three electrodes to each of the electrode connectors. Carefully remove the plastic from the adhesive surface of the electrodes.
Before attaching the device, please turn the device in the right direction, so that the small green line points upwards.
Please make sure that the adhesive sticks properly to the skin and that there is no air between the electrodes and the skin. We recommend exercising light pressure on the edges of the electrodes to double-check that they stick to the skin properly.
Now, simply press the button to start the recording. The green light might start to flash fast in the beginning but will turn to a constant slow pattern after some seconds, indicating that the device is now recording.
As a final step, please instruct your patient on how to use the Holter monitor throughout daily activities.
To achieve optimal results, the device should be worn at all times. It only needs to be removed when exposed to running water, for example, while showering. Patients can take the device off by themselves. Please instruct them to not remove the electrodes. When the device has no contact to the skin, it will flash white. After showering, patients can simply reattach the device to the electrodes, which will restart the recording.
In our Quick Start guide, you can find a detailed explanation of all light patterns and their meanings.
With our logbook, patients can keep track of any symptoms that they feel while wearing the Holter monitor. If your patient experiences discomfort or pain during the recording, the button should be pushed once. This marks an event and helps you to analyze the recordings afterwards.
You can download the logbook in the Downloads Section.
